A Year in Review: 2014 | December 31st, 2014

The year 2014 brought many new challenges and surprises. Here's a look back on some of them.

In 2014, I. . .

Watched my Grandparents celebrate 63 years of marriage
Cheered on my brother while attending my last Metro hockey game

Saw New York for the very first time

Attended my last high school dance. . .

. . .with the two best looking girls there

Got ready to say goodbye to where I had spent my last four years

Finally graduated high school!

Ran (practically crawled through) the Color Run

Visited Las Vegas for the first time

Attended Lollapalooza in Chicago for round two

Left home. . . but gained a family

Met my new sidekick

Watched Lorde kill it

Became a radio DJ

Attended Fallapalooza to see Matt and Kim

<3

Did some weird stuff in biology lab

Began to miss home

Grew closer to a lot more people

Explored Old Market

Celebrated the Christmas season with my very own Elf

Begrudgingly welcomed another Midwest winter

Needless to say, it's been quite the year. I can't wait to see what 2015 has in store for me. Bring it.

Best Products of 2014 | December 29, 2014

2014 was a great year for me, in many aspects. I graduated from high school, fell in love with the college I'm attending, and made many new friends along the way. That being said, it was also a great year for racking up an embarrassing amount of Sephora in-store-credit points and other various online shopping trips. Here's some of the makeup, beauty, and miscellaneous products I loved the most throughout 2014:

Skincare

1. Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil

I always use this cleansing oil to remove my makeup at night, and it does an amazing job of removing heavy eye makeup and deep-cleaning the skin. Unlike other harsh cleansers, it doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped or sensitive after.

2. Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish

I am just hoping the samples I have been hoarding of this exfoliator won't run out too soon--the full size is a little pricey. However, this product does a great job of removing dry patches without irritating my sensitive skin, which has been especially important for the winter. After using this for a few weeks as needed, I have noticed that my skin has been brighter and more smooth.

3. Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer

This moisturizer includes coffee bean extract and ginseng to brighten the complexion and hydrate. One reason I love this is because it sinks into the skin very quickly, and doesn't leave a heavy or greasy film before some moisturizers. It also sits very well under makeup. This products has been another thing that has prevented my skin from looking dull or dry this winter, but I plan to use it all year round!

4. Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask

I have combination skin throughout most of the year, and the best thing for me to ward off dryness or breakouts is to make sure my skin is hydrated. This anti-aging overnight mask contains avocado, apricot, and seaweed to replenish and repair the skin. Not to mention it smells great!

Makeup

1. Lorac Pro Palette

If I could only use one eyeshadow palette for the rest of my life, this one would definitely be it. This palette features a row of mattes and a row of shimmers. The quality of these shadows is smooth and blendable while also providing a lot of pigment. To get a more intense look with these, I will get my eyeshadow brush wet with a bit of Evian facial spray before applying. I haven't used another palette since I got this and I would definitely recommend looking into either this one or the brand's other
eyeshadow palettes.

2. Josie Maran Coconut Water Cheek Gelee in Pink Escape

This cream blush has to be one of the most intense ones I have used. A little goes a very long way and the color lasts much longer on me than a powder blush alone. Because it is a "geleé", the finish looks very natural on the cheeks.

3. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Out of all of the new lipsticks I have tried this year, this one from Kat Von D has the most long-wearing matte formula I have found. I love the shades Bachelorette, a "dark reddish fuscia" and Vampira, a "deep reddish burgundy." This lipstick has lasted me all evening on multiple occasions, but I would recommend throwing it in your purse for a quick touch-up swipe after eating or drinking. (Warning: this lipstick is truly matte, so if you aren't comfortable with the more dry feeling, I would try this in Sephora before purchasing.)

Hair

1. NuMe Lustrum Curling Set

My hair has a hard time holding curl, but this set has completely changed that. The set comes with five interchangeable barrels to create a variety of looks. The brand's website claims that this set "eliminates frizz, locks in moisture, and reduces damage to hair." I have definitely noticed less heat damage from using this curling wand, but I would also recommend using a heat protectant as well. Note: This set is pretty expensive, but I was able to find an online coupon code. If you're looking for a cheaper option, I would skip out on the five piece set and look into getting just their 32mm wand (my favorite).

Actual curls!

2. 12 Benefits Healthy Hair Treatment

Is it just me, or is the water in college dorms super hard on hair? Since moving, my hair has been much more dry and hard to keep smooth. However, I was sent this spray-on treatment in one of my subscription boxes and it instantly made my hair less tangled, more smooth, and soft. The product description claims it is "Perfect to use every day to smooth frizz, seal hair color, moisturize and strengthen. Plus, it prevents split ends, softens, shines, detangles and protects!"

Miscellaneous

1. Laura Mercier Creme Brûlée Honey Bath

I normally don't gravitate towards sweet scents, but this bubble bath smells like a mix between the inside of Winnie the Pooh's pot of honey and the inside of a French bakery. Needless to say, its amazing. While it is a luxury (cough expensive) product, a little amount goes a long way. Cue the sad realization that I am going back to school soon and won't be able to use this for a few months. . .

2. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

I like having something light to read around, and this inner-monologue-style book by Mindy Kaling was hilarious. Amazon.com writes a much better review about it here.

3. Adulting: How to Become A Grown Up in 468 Easy(ish) Steps by Kelly Williams Brown

It's no secret that most of us want to come off as though we have everything figured out. Whether it be learning what never to say in a job interview or how to live on your own, I'm sure there is something in this book you will learn from. Review found here

If you are interested in any of the products mentioned above, here's a list of where you can find them online:

I am a little sad to say goodbye to this year, but I cannot wait to see what 2015 has in store!
Happy New Year, xo

Go-to Fall Lipsticks | November 3rd, 2014

Here are some of my favorite lipsticks that I've been obsessed with using this fall:

From top to bottom:

-Maybelline Color Sensational in Nude Lust
-Too Faced Melted Long Wear Liquified Lipstick in Melted Berry
-Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream in Port
-Maybelline Color Sensational in Touch of Spice
-Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Tannin
-NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita
-NARS Lip Liner Pencil in Jungle Red

Maybelline's Nude Lust

Amid all of the deep reds and dark plums coming out this fall, I like to sometimes take a break from it all and wear a classic nude, like this one from Maybelline. It is a little brown for my skin tone, so I add a little more pink by pairing this lipstick with NYX's Butter Gloss in Vanilla Creme Pie.       Highlights: classic nude, comfortable feel

Too Faced's Melted Berry

The amount of pigment in these melted lipsticks is insane. This product can be applied very lightly for a slight wash of color, or layered on for a more nighttime-appropriate look. Once it dries, this lipstick is very matte and will stain the lips. However, I would reapply or layer on a clear lip balm if you intend to wear longer than 2-3 hours. The formula can tend to be a little drying on it's own. Highlights: long wearing, intense color

Bite Beauty's Port

This formula goes from liquid to matte, and is super long-wearing. I had this on at the Lorde concert for at least 4-5 hours, and the color held up beautifully throughout the night. Highlights: long-wearing, classic red, turns very matte

Maybelline's Touch of Spice

I am a huge fan of Maybelline's new collection of mattes, but my favorite out of all of them is this deep pink called Touch of Spice. It wears very comfortably, and is a happy medium for those who don't want to go super dark for fall, but still want a little bit of edge. Highlights: Perfect fall color, comfortable, not long-wearing

Bite Beauty's Tannin

Out of all of the products listed in this post, this lipstick is by far the most comfortable on the lips. That being said, it does tend to slide around a little more than the others. I would wear this somewhere where I know I won't be eating, drinking, or fussing with my lips. The lip products from this brand are all feature over 90% food-grade ingredients, meaning that this lipstick is natural and good enough to eat! (An even better drugstore duplicate for this is Maybelline's Color Sensational in Divine Wine. This one is actually hiding in the bottom of one of my purses somewhere so I didn't include it in the swatches above. Sorry!)Highlights: natural ingredients, moisturizing

NARS' Dolce Vita
When going to class or going for a more simple look, I really like this lip pencil from NARS. The reason it works so well during the day is because it looks like a very pretty natural lip color. On me, it's a perfect "my lips but better" shade.
Highlights: natural shade, matte

NARS' Jungle RED

With all of the red shades mentioned in this post, I use the lip pencil from NARS in Jungle RED. It works pretty well with all of the reds I've paired it with so far!

So those are the lip products I've been loving for this fall! Thanks for reading, xo

Update: Life As A College Student | October 8th, 2014

It's been quite a while since I have posted on here and since I have been able to talk to many of my friends and family back home! I have been super busy but having the time of my life here at Creighton. Here's a few of the things I've been up to:

Coming from a class of about 140 and moving to a school with over 1,000 people in my freshman class seemed a little intimidating, but very exciting. I have only been here for about a month and a half, but I can already tell that I am surrounded by the people that will be my lifelong friends. Some of my favorite things to do in Omaha are making target runs with my roommate, going to the Old Market for breakfast on Saturdays, and getting to know the city! There's a lot more for me to explore still.

I love walking across this  beautiful campus every morning!

Being busy all of the time is very new to me. I have had to work harder here than ever before. Between my full class schedule, studying, volunteering, and clubs, I barely feel like I have enough time to just sit and relax. However, I am trying my best to embrace these new challenges and to still make time for myself--which isn't always easy. I like to blow off steam by going to yoga class or grabbing a bite to eat with friends. The only major downside to living in the dorms? I feel like I am always either just about to get catch something, sick, or just getting over a cold. The vitamin C intake has been real.

The library is my second home

The best family at Creighton there is
Meet the roomie, Ayet!

But in between all of the hard work and stress, I've had some great experiences. The music scene around Omaha is so exciting! I got to see Lorde while catching up with a few high school friends, then caught Matt and Kim at Creighton's Fallapalooza (who put on a crazy show by the way):

Lorde in Council Bluffs
Matt and Kim

Speaking of music: I am a radio DJ at Creighton's BLUJ radio. You can catch me every Wednesday night from 8-9 pm by clicking here

Coming to you live from Swanson Hall

So that's just a few of the things that have been keeping me busy! Fall break is in a week and I can't wait to go home and catch up with my puppy, family, and friends. I wish I could express how grateful I am for the people I have gotten to know so far and who have made my experience here so welcoming. I have fallen in love with Creighton and wouldn't have it any other way. xo

Lolla Recap | August 28th, 2014

Either you had the time of your life or you couldn't wait for people to stop bragging about it already. This post was a little (lot) late coming, but here's some highlights from Lollapalooza 2014:

Didn't deserve to have this amazing view every night. . .

Dreams do come true

Thinking about going to Lolla next year or sometime in the future? Here's a few of my recommendations:

1). For the love of God: Wear comfortable shoes. I promise those Steve Madden booties you just bought are NOT worth the blisters.

2.) Don't be that person who sits on someone else's shoulders the entire show. Go all out for a few songs by all means, but then it's time for you to get your instagram-worthy picture and hop on down. Or if you do choose to stay up there, apologize to whatever unlucky person got stuck directly behind you.

3.) ORDER GIORDANO'S for after the shows. Just do it.

4.) If you're having a bad night: no worries. Someone will probably try and sell you their mix-tape on your walk back to the hotel to cheer you up.

So another Lolla has been put into the books and I can't wait to see if I'll go next year! S/O to everyone I spent time there with. You all made it one of the best experiences of my life. xo
